Marijuanaman is here!
The superhero comes to life under the pen of Joe Casey and the brush of Jim Mahfood; two artists known for their pro-Cannabis stance, but this comic is above all the collaboration of the Image publishing house (also responsible for the publication of The Walking Dead) and Ziggy Marley (son of Bob) who serves, in the manner of Stan Lee for superheroes ,as art director to ensure the coherence of the Run (an American term meaning “narrative axis”).
Launched on April 20, 2011 (i.e. 4/20), the superhero is like Superman: an extraterrestrial who has come from the stars to our rescue. When he absorbs the DNA of a Cannabis plant, his fate is sealed: he’ll be Marijuanaman, protector of plant life (except when it comes to smoking it).
In the first Run, we discover our hero’s attempt to adapt as he is welcomed by the inhabitants of Exodus, a Rasta community that opens its arms to him.
Of course, a superhero is nothing without a villain to contend with. All this happens as an evil businessman, who makes his money on nefarious designer drugs, sends out his future nemesis, the cold, calculating Cash Money. A golden mercenary robot (no need to tell them about C3PO).
Speaking of capitalism, this is a good opportunity to point out that the comic book is available on Amazon for $22 right here.
If you’re open about your consumption, this is a great idea to add to your library, it’s very well drawn and quite fun to read. Don’t worry if you’re a bit broke, Ziggy has made available two animated comics based on the comic’s plates on his YouTube channel. In fact, he dubs Marijuanaman himself, and even composed the credits for the episodes.
The second episode also features the voice of comedian Pauly Shore (who has appeared in many stoner comedies, including Bio-dome) for even more WTF.
Ziggy marley is a great Reggae musician with three bands and a dozen albums to his credit, who also composes many songs for cartoons such as Arthur or Gang of sharks.
The businessman, who is also behind his own brand of leaf, a cookbook and hemp snacks, has been a prominent campaigner for the legalization of Cannabis since the 80s. With so many strings to his bow, Ziggy Marley is the most prolific Rasta in history. What if he were the real MarijuanaMan?
