France: Lyon mayor in favor of cannabis legalization
At a city council meeting, Lyon mayor Grégory Doucet spoke out in favor of cannabis legalization. The mayor’s stance came as no surprise, reports Lyon Capital in an article available here.
France: For Senator Bernard Jomier, “The State must regulate the sale of cannabis”.
Bernard Jomier, Senator for Paris and general practitioner, deplores the government’s policy on cannabis. Rather than reinforcing a repressive policy that he considers ineffective, he proposes that the State organize and supervise the sale of cannabis. The Public Sénat article is available here.
Luxembourg: The Grand Duchy will not legalize cannabis.
The Luxembourg government is reneging on its campaign promises to legalize the use of recreational cannabis. Only self-cultivation will be permitted, while medical cannabis has been authorized since 2019. The RTBF article is available here.
USA: Legalization does not increase the number of consumers.
In a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, we learn that cannabis consumption has not increased in the American states that have legalized it. USA: 60,000 cannabis convictions amnestied.
Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón has announced that he will overturn nearly 60,000 cannabis-related convictions handed down before California voted to legalize the drug. The USA Today article is available here.
USA: One step closer to federal legalization.
The U.S. House Judiciary Committee made progress on Thursday September 30 on the cannabis legalization and social component bill (better known as the MORE Act), a first step towards its passage through the full House, even if the Senate remains the main obstacle. South Africa: Rastafarians call for legalization of ganja.
The Governor of the North West Province has called for the full legalization of recreational cannabis, giving special thanks to the Rastafari community for bringing him… faith. Governor Desbo Mohono explained that their prayers had opened doors in the same way that the Rastafarian community had paved the way for legalization by demonstrating the healing powers of cannabis.
