Six years after cannabis legalization, Washington State pardons convicts.

In 2012, the State of Washington legalized the recreational use of marijuana.
Since then, eight other states have followed suit, and of the fifty that make up the territory, thirty now authorize the use of marijuana for medical purposes, while federal law still prohibits all use.

In Washington State, the governor now wants to set up a system for rehabilitating people convicted of marijuana possession offenses before the drug is legalized.
Democrat Jay Inslee, poised to enter the 2020 presidential race, said in a statement: “We shouldn’t be punishing people for something that is no longer illegal in Washington State“.
