Seth Rogen, Hollywood Dude

//

At 41 (with a career spanning 28 years), Seth Rogen has become a standard-bearer for pop-culture and ganja lovers, all with a coolness that would never let you guess that he weighs in at $80 million.
Actor, producer, screenwriter, entrepreneur and confirmed ceramist, the Canadian is a one-man promotion for legalization, so much so that this first-rate stoner accumulates successes (between two tafs), proclaiming his love of weed to all and sundry. Portrait of the most relaxed stakhanovist on the planet.

Some people have lived through the pandemic. Like Seth Rogen, who, by his own admission, has been “confined since 2009“. A joke he cracked on Jimmy Kimmel’s show in April, and which his writing partner Evan Goldberg confirms: “He’s probably one of the only people happy to be forced indoors“. Because Seth Rogen doesn’t like going out, glamour and glitter. What he likes is to make people laugh, to entertain, to stay on his couch with his wife and dog, smoking joints as big as his arms. With Goldberg, they founded the cannabis production and distribution company Houseplant, named in tribute to his philosophy. And it’s still going strong.

First stand-up in a lesbian bar

He started out doing stand-up in a lesbian bar at the age of thirteen, which earned him a hat full of tips:“Apparently they liked Jewish jokes,” he gushes on The Ellen Show, avoiding talking too much about his furtive marriage to a female director in 2012.
That same year, he smoked his first joint in an alley in his neighborhood, and by dint of insistence managed to convince his best friend Evan to try it out 2 years later.
Seth gently teases his friend about throwing up his first time, and that’s what their brand is all about: that no one has to start with their first time in an alley or at a seedy party. Houseplant’s goal is cannabis made accessible and healthy. This desire is illustrated by their reusable, easily identifiable packaging, which lets you know in an instant whether you’re smoking indica in orange or sativa in magenta.
Our recommendation? Pineapple express, of course, named after the brilliant action-comedy in which a legendary weed is at the origin of an insane chase with her friend James Franco.

Friends first

The secret of his success is a great deal of second-degree humor and an anchoring that he owes to his band of pals, as in the cast of This is the end, a film he co-wrote with Evan and directed. He and his crew (James Franco, Jonah Hill, Justin Long and many others) face the apocalypse in the film, which brings out their own rivalries.
In fact, Seth Rogen has remained very loyal to this team, which is behind many of his own projects.
“Mostly, I wanted to make a movie with my buddies… and the movie started from a smoking session between friends.”

Following his mother-in-law’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis, he set up the Hilarity for Charity comedy festival, which was given a special on Netflix and… A Cannabic Carnival reserved for those over 18 in New Jersey.
Here you can see them talking with his wife about their commitment to this cause, but above all about their consumption over the course of a week, enough to get Snoop to sleep? No, but enough to put the entire Zeweed editorial team to sleep in front of cartoons for an afternoon.

No compromise

This man – who revolutionized adult animation (with Sausage Party, which he designed), superhero series (with The Boys, which he produced) and religion (with the incredible Preacher series, which he developed) – did all this by his own admission, simply because it amused him.
No matter the haters or his image, he does what he pleases and regularly attacks the “racist” federal anti-drug policy of the American state.“A policy that has served to lock up people of color for decades” according to him.
Cannabis is part of his life, and he simply wants to share his love for the plant: “Every morning, I smoke a joint with my coffee and keep on smoking until I go to bed. Sometimes I wake up at night to smoke more.
Houseplant has also launched a collection of ashtrays inspired by those made by Seth in his early days, which “are perfect for a smoking session and for holding even the biggest joints“.
A meditative pastime that suits him well and that he practices on every shoot, the most recent being   “ Pam& Tommy”(which tells the story behind Motley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee and Baywatch babe Pamela Anderson’s sex tape scandal) was no exception, to the delight of 12 members of the film crew who were presented with a“made by Seth” ashtray. Awesome attitude, dude!
