It’s well known that the rods and sticks found in our weed are rarely appreciated by Cannabis smokers, as they puncture the joints. They’re also often seen as a way for dealers to artificially add weight, and therefore as downright heavy. However, there are many ways to put your stalks to good use, as they still contain a lot of good stuff (and THC in particular) left to waste.
Method 1: Tea
This is the simplest method (and the one I use most often). Break off the stems before placing them in a tea strainer, then pour in the hot water. Beware, the somewhat bitter taste is not ideal, so I always add a second infusion of “Gunpowder” black tea from China and a little flower honey. Of course, any variation is possible: matcha green tea and sugar, instant coffee and aspartame, etc. It’s up to you to find your balance. I highly recommend this recipe for the day after a party: it’s a great way to hydrate yourself (to recover from your hangover) and get your day off to a good start.
Method 2: The green fairy
For this very French recipe (cocorico) you’ll need an airtight container (like a gourd if you want to play Asterix) and absinthe. Fill the container with stems before pouring in your absinthe, and shake for 2 minutes a day for 2 weeks. Finally, use a strainer or household linen to collect the liquid. This very strong mixture should be incorporated into your concoctions in small doses and in moderation.
Method 3: Chocapic powder
This recipe requires an airtight jar (such as a foie gras pot), which must be kept away from children. Gather all your stems in a mortar and pestle them to a powder (an electric grinder or coffee grinder can also work). Then simply stir one or two tablespoons into boiling milk (which can be vegan for vegans), for a relaxing, trippy brew.
Method 4: The Blunt lighter Mike Teeve
Any cigar aficionado will tell you that the lighter always leaves a little butane taste, which should of course be avoided. To remedy this, the easiest thing to do is to leave some fairly thick stems to dry in the sun and use them to light your well-stocked Blunt. I’ve seen several people say it’s Peter Tosh’s favorite way of lighting up the reggae giant. It’s worth a try.
