California’s Northen Nights festival kicked off on July 20. On the program: music, yoga, artworks and, for the first time, recreational cannabis.
It’s the first and only music festival to allow recreational cannabis sales and on-site consumption in the United States. Northen Nights was able to take advantage of the passage of AB 2020, a law that since September 2018 has authorized local jurisdictions to grant temporary event licenses for the sale and consumption of cannabis at festivals and other events, provided only that vendors have a license. Thus, the cannabis sold depends on a fairly structured situation, in line with Californian guidelines.
