Legalization: Luxembourgers will have to wait.

The Luxembourg government has announced that its initiative to legalize the use and sale of cannabis will take longer than expected.

The cause: neighborhood problems. “This is not a simple matter. We have identified a number of implications, particularly with regard to relations with our neighboring countries,” admits Health Minister Étienne Schneider in Le Quotidien.
While cannabis consumption is exploding in the Duchy, and the issue of health and safety is a serious one, international and European legal problems are also getting in the way of the project.
“The THC content of cannabis sold on the black market is rising steadily. Some samples are as high as 70%. This has fatal consequences, particularly for young consumers, who could be led to use other narcotics”, continues the Minister.
To get out of this rut, Étienne Schneider intends to submit a new project to the Council of Government “shortly”, with the help of the Minister of Justice, Sam Tanson.
