The World March for Cannabis is an international event held every year since 1999 in over 700 cities and 65 nations. It usually takes place on the first Saturday in May.
After 4/20, the beginning of May is the second date on the calendar for cannabis enthusiasts. It’s an opportunity for them to demand a global response to policies policies against cannabis, in the form of an international day of convergence of cannabis struggles.
It begins this Saturday, May 4, in the city of Lyon, where they will be calling for a reform of French politics, which the Lyonnais consider totally outdated.
The march is being organized by several collectives, associations and political parties: the Lyon Cannabinoid Information and Research Collective (CIRC), Principes Actifs, GRECC (Groupe de recherche et d’études Cliniques sur les Cannabinoïdes), Lyon’s Young Ecologists, Europe Ecologie – Les Verts, the Ligue des Droits de l’Homme, the Nouveau Parti Anticapitaliste, the AIDES anti-AIDS association, and the associations Ananda & Cie and Bredda Sounds.
The march will start at 2.30pm from the Place Carnot to the Place des Terreaux.
The Paris march will take place on May 11. They both denounce the fact that France has some of the most restrictive cannabis laws in the world, but is also one of the biggest consumers of cannabis.
To take part, meet at Place de la Bastille from 1pm. The procession will start at 3pm and go all the way to Place de la République. It will be accompanied by musical floats, entertainment and speeches by associations and their representatives.
The “World Cannabis March” has been organized in France every year since 2001. It takes place in over 700 cities in 65 countries.
