Amsterdam in 4 tips

Amsterdam, the historic capital of smoking, is a place of pilgrimage for many weed enthusiasts. To make your stay memorable despite the effects of THC, Zeweed has unearthed 4 addresses off the beaten track.

This list is dedicated to all the things you can do between coffee shop visits. With over 200 coffee shops in the city, it would be difficult to select just a handful, but you can read about the history of the very first one here.

The Kattenkabinet (Cat Museum)

While this museum is undeniably offbeat, it is nonetheless very serious.
Nestled in a magnificent mansion, typical of Flemish architecture, this museum features works by Pablo Picasso, Rembrandt, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Corneille and many other eminent cat lovers. In fact, to our knowledge, it’s the only museum you can visit in the company of our feline friends, who roam freely through the halls of this catypical establishment.

(Open weekdays from noon to 5 p.m., except Mondays)
Address: Herengracht 497 1017 BT

The Foodhallen (food hall)

Located in a delightful former tramway warehouse, this institution is a must for all foodies in the throes of a munchies attack (or in French: “pour tous les amateurs de bonne cuisine en pleine fingralle”).
More than 20 stalls of impeccable hygiene and quality grace this gourmet hangar, offering local and international cuisine (including vegan, hallal and gluten-free).
A little bonus: you can also find the best space cakes in the world in Amsterdam… Be careful not to eat them all at once.

(Open daily, noon to 11pm)
Address: Bellamyplein 51, 1053 AT

The Hash, Cannabis and Hemp Museum

This museum, created and run by Dutch Cannabis king Ben Dronkers, is Europe’s largest dedicated to your favorite plant. A visit here means discovering Cannabis and its uses, in all its forms: recreational, of course, but also medicinal, shamanic (with extremely rare items from the four corners of the world) and even industrial, with a whole section dedicated to the exploitation of hemp. A very planet-friendly, eco-friendly material.
With a collection of 12,000 pieces and a magnificently restored storefront, which is that of one of the city’s oldest coffee shops, visiting this museum is a bit like lighting a joint in church.

(Open 7/7 from 10am to 10pm)
Address: Damstraat 6, 1012 JM

The Smoke Boat

To relax completely, there’s nothing like a good joint, a few cheap drinks and a captain who points out the best coffee shops as you cruise along the canals.
Yes, smoking is allowed (and recommended) on this barge for the entire journey.
One tourist even told me he’d enjoyed the course for free a second time… because he’d fallen asleep the first time.
Or how to really bubble along.

(Open daily, noon to 10pm)
Address: Oudezijds Voorburgwal 195, 1012 EX
